Jessica Perelman is a Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist fascinated with all things craft and decoration. She views thrift store figurines, souvenir plate collections and the use of plastic plants to create a sense of home and place against the backdrop of the history of craft-based art education for the emerging middle-class women of the 19th century. Using that intersection, she creates work that exists between the decorative and the souvenir, of which become an intimate memorial to our humanness. Her use of pattern and form bucks against the expected allowing for new associations.
For At Home with Ambiguity, she will show paintings alongside painterly sculptures. Evoking the feminine and decorative, while staying humorous, grids, flowers, animals all occupy the same wonky world without regard to the real in this fresh take.
